Strategy:
'Love Thumper' shield makes a hugh difference. Keep the shield depleted at all times.
'Execute' skill is key - wait till the very end of 'Decepti0n' for maximal melee damage output.
'Deathmark' further buffs melee damage, but it is optional.
'Death Bl0ss0m' helps a great deal if the kunai explodes with either slag or shock element, but again it is optional.
Run around jumping to dodge attacks. After 'Execute', only stab Pete in the back once then quickly move away from him - with shield depleted, even full hp can only tank one attack from Pete.
Use water to 'wash off' status effect(s).
Only use the sewer pipe that spawns spiderants if you have sufficient time, simply because they are much easier to deal with (imagine a bunch of level 66 rats shooting at you...).

Pistol:
Rubi (Quest reward, 'Rakkaholics Anonymous')

[12% healing capability is really really nice. Slag element is optional. If the Rubi you have does not come with Slag, make sure to bring along a decent slag weapon.]
Assault rifle:
Rapier (Quest reward, 'Message In A Bottle' in Hayter's Folly)

[+200% melee damage is the highest in the game so far. For those who are wondering about 'Law' and 'Order' combo, sadly they do not work against Pete.]
Launcher:
Creamer (Quest reward, finish Creature Slaughter round 5)

Shield:
Love Thumper (Quest reward, 'Best Mother's Day Ever')

[Ludicrously increased recharge delay, Roid damage and additional explosive Nova damage make the 'Love Thumper' shield easily one of the best melee shields in the game. However, without any healing effect (cf. 'Law + Order'), weapons with healing capabilities are vital for survival.]
Grenade mod:
Storm Front (dropped from 'Splinter Group' mutants)

[tesla grenade with incredible AOE damage over time. Together with Moxxi's Rubi, Storm Front quickly takes out any rats or spiderants spawned while healing. Alternatively, any shock elemental grenade with crowd control effect is effective.]
Class mod:
Legendary Hunter Class Mod (dropped from Vermivorous the Invincible)

[Rather than using melee-specific class mod, I personally find reduced cooldown rate and 10% hp restoration upon action skill activation more useful. Nevertheless, it's a personal choice.]
