Shenmue III is an action-adventure developed by Ys Net and published by Deep Silver. Continuing the story from the two previous titles, the protagonist Ryo Hazuki finds himself in Bailu village still in search of his father’s killer, Lan Di. In this new area, he will be accompanied by the mysterious country girl Shenhua. With these two individuals fated to meet by destiny, you will experience the beauty of the new area and will be encountering new adventures and will be facing new foes. A long timing had passed for this much awaited sequel.
Earning a metacritic score of 69 (PS4) and 67 (PC), Shenmue III is widely considered as a disappointing sequel compared to its previous games. Criticisms where focused on how outdated the game turned out to be that ignored the modern changes in gaming, its gameplay was a big hassle, its story pacing and development was slow, and how its fighting mechanics paled in comparison to the other titles. On the other hand, there were few praises given to it like how it managed to stay nostalgic by being faithful to the original gameplay and how great its music was.
As for me, I enjoyed this very much. With the first two games being a part of my childhood, I really liked how the game stayed consistent with its gameplay and UI mechanics which tickled my nostalgic vibes on this game. Moreover, as awful as the voice acting still is, it still very nice to listen to Ryo’s classic English VA after more or less 20 years. However, there are still many parts which I did not like in this game, first is the degraded fighting mechanics which devolved into a typical action which was far to the fightin game genre-like mechanic of the previous game. Next was how the story moved so slow after waiting for 20 years, its like the devs just want to milk this franchise more. Regardless, if you are an avid Shenmue fan, I thinks you will still like this game for nostalgic purposes. Enjoy the walkthrough!!!
