KittyCat and I play and review a remastered version of the classic PC DOS game Digger from 1983. An IBM clone of Dig Dug and the 1982 arcade game Mr. Do! Digger remains a wonderful game that still shines, and remain frustratingly difficult and addictive, after all these years.

Review:

We had a lot of fun and nostalgia playing this remastered version of the classic PC game from 1983. The music is iconic and brings back pleasant memories of the early 80's and long wasted summer vacations spent in front of the flickering monochrome monitor.

It's amazing how detailed and engaging the game is given it's incredibly small size, a mere 68 kilobytes (major kudos to the developer who managed to do so much with so little). The version played and demonstrated is actually a reverse-engineered and remastered version of the original Windmill Software game released for free by Andrew Jenner in 1999. The game despite its ancient 4-color CGA graphics, is still super fun to play and eminently suitable for all ages.

The goal of the game is to survive the underground maze as long as possible while digging for gold, emeralds, and the occasional bonus cherries that allow you to turn the table and consume the ubiquitous and ever pursuing Nobbin and Hobbin monsters. Digger is truly a classic. A lovely, superbly written game from a bygone era that still shines with creativity and never gets old. We love it and you will too if you give it a try.
